Festive Cheer at our first Christmas in July celebration

Who says Christmas only comes once a year?

Christmas in July 2026

Twenty-four members of MX5 Owners Club SEQ gathered last Sunday for our inaugural Christmas in July Potluck Luncheon at the Salacia Waters Recreation Club (thanks Ralph and Janelle), enjoying an afternoon filled with delicious food, plenty of laughter and the camaraderie that has become a hallmark of our Club in a very short timeframe.

Hosted by Mark and Sophie McConville, the event brought members together to celebrate the cooler weather with an impressive spread of (mostly) homemade dishes. From hearty Christmas favourites to tempting desserts, the generosity and culinary talents of our members were on full display, ensuring nobody left hungry.

The afternoon wasn’t just about the food. Mark kept everyone thoroughly entertained with a series of festive games and activities that had the room laughing throughout. One of the highlights with a game called “John Wayne or Blue Movie?”, which certainly tested everyone’s knowledge—and perhaps their ability to keep a straight face!

Members also put their MX-5 knowledge to the test in a fiercely contested MX-5 Trivia Quiz. Five teams battled through a challenging series of questions before the competition was finally decided in a tense tie-break round, with the team John and Robyn Martin, Maggie Myers and Kevin and Suzanne Richard claiming bragging rights.

In keeping with the Christmas spirit, members were also invited to bring a new toy for donation to a local children’s charity. Thanks to the generosity of those attending, a wonderful collection of gifts was assembled, allowing the Club to spread a little Christmas cheer to local families in need.

A sincere thank you goes to Mark and Sophie McConville for their enthusiasm and hard work in organising another outstanding Club event. Their efforts ensured an afternoon filled with friendship, laughter and festive fun.

While our MX-5s may have enjoyed a well-earned afternoon off, the Christmas spirit was certainly firing on all cylinders. If this year’s celebration was anything to go by, Christmas in July has well and truly earned its place on the MX5 Owners Club SEQ calendar.
