Kevin and Suzanne Barnes have organised the clubs first weekend away and you are invited to join the Coolum Runnings, extended 4-day long weekend away run in August.

The weekend kicks off on Friday 28^th of August (Gold Coast Show Day Holiday) and concludes on Monday 31^st August 2026. If, however you need to return home on Sunday that is perfectly fine, the Hotel is aware of this possibility just let them know when booking.

The 4 days take in many great MX5 roads, as we explore the Sunshine Coast.

What is the Itinerary?

A detailed run program and itinerary will be issued closer to the date. In Summary.

• Friday 28th
  • Meeting Point will be at Worongary Town Shopping Centre
  • Run to Clock Park in Lowood,  for a BYO morning tea
  • Run to Dayboro for a freedom of choice lunch at one of the many cafes in town.
  • Happy Hour – BYO nibbles & drinks in the BBQ Area.
  • Group Dinner at the Coolum Beach Hotel, a short walk from the Hotel.

• Saturday 29th
  • Breakfast at your leisure at one of the many cafes in town or in your room
  • Run to Carters Ridge for morning tea at the Hub Café
  • Run to Pomona for a group lunch at the Pomona Distillery
  • Happy Hour at the hotel
  • A freedom of choice dinner night at one of the may cafes or restaurants in town or
  • just chill out around the pool with fish & chips, pizza, or something from the many takeaway restaurants in town.

• Sunday 30th
  • Run to Mooloolaba for a group brunch at the Quarter Deck Espresso Bar.
  • Whale Watching Tour (optional, see details further on) those not whale watching you can explore Mooloolaba and its surrounds.
  • Happy Hour at the hotel.
  • Group Dinner at the Coolum Surf Club (just across the road from the Hotel)
• Monday 31st
  • Breakfast at your leisure at one of the many cafes in town or in your room
  • Run to Woodford for Morning tea at the café or bakery
  • Run to Glanmorgan Vale for lunch at the Bottletree Hotel (always good food)
• The run concludes at Glanmorgan Vale, we say our farewells and then make our own way home.

How Do I Register to Secure my Place?

Step 1: Book your accommodation in Coolum with the Beach Retreat Hotel

Step 2: Pay your registration fee to the MX5 Owners Club SEQ INC

Step 3:  Book, and pay for your whale watching ticket, if you plan to attend (optional)

Step 4: Send an RSVP email confirming attendance, hotel booking, payment and if you are attending the whale watching.

Step 5: You will receive a confirmation email within a few days. Further details on Coolum and surrounding areas along with the detailed itinerary will be issued closer to the date.

Step 1. Accommodation Details

The Beach Retreat Hotel is holding several rooms exclusively for the MX5 Owners Club however numbers are limited, so please be quick to book your room and to register. The Hotel is centrally located and a short walk to shops, cafés and restaurants.

All rooms are air-conditioned have a TV, mini fridge, coffee & tea making facilities and most will also have a toaster and or microwave oven, but please check when booking.

If booking online, the discount code once entered will automatically discount the booking by 10% but only when booking online, on their website  https://beachretreatcoolum.com/accommodation

Once you’ve put your accommodation dates in, there is a space to add promo / discount code, please enter MX5CAR and the discount will be applied. Otherwise call the Hotel directly and don’t forget to mention that you are with the MX5 Owners Group Club.

To secure a booking, they require payment for the first night. This can be made by credit card or direct deposit. You can book online via the website or over the phone by calling us at 07 5471 7700.

To proceed with your booking, please confirm:

If for some reason you must cancel your booking, you can cancel and get your deposit refunded (minus a $40 administration fee) if you do so 7 days before arrival in LOW season, 14 days before arrival in MID season and 28 days before arrival in HIGH season.

Room rates do not include breakfast.

Step 3. Whale Watching Tour

If you plan to participate in the optional whale watching tour at 1.30pm on Sunday, following the group brunch, you must book your tickets directly with Sunreef Whale Watching as early as possible as not to be disappointed. The ticket cost per adult after the 10% discount is $76.50 pp + small credit card and booking fee.
