How the MX-5 Owners Club (SEQ) Works

Welcome to the MX-5 Owners Club (SEQ) Inc.

This page explains, in simple terms, how the Club operates, what members can expect, and how to get the most out of your membership.

What the Club Is (and Isn’t)

The MX-5 Owners Club (SEQ) is an enthusiast car club run by volunteers for people who enjoy owning and driving Mazda MX-5s.

We are:

  • A social, community-focused club
  • About enjoying drives, events and friendships
  • Inclusive, respectful and welcoming

We are not:

  • A racing club
  • A commercial business
  • A “free-for-all” driving group

Club Runs

Club runs are organised driving events and are a core part of the Club.

What to expect

  • Routes planned by experienced members
  • Clear meeting points and timings
  • A relaxed, social driving pace
  • Safety and courtesy always come first

Important rules

  • Club runs are MX-5 only
  • Everyone is responsible for their own driving
  • This is not racing or competitive driving

Run leaders and convenors are volunteers — please respect their role and instructions.

Social Events

Not everything revolves around driving.

We regularly hold:

  • Social lunches and coffee meets
  • Charity and community events
  • Casual get-togethers

Social events are open to all membership types unless stated otherwise.

Event Costs – How Payments Work

The Club operates on a user-pays philosophy.

This means:

  • Your membership fee covers access to events and administration
  • Any costs related to attending an event (meals, entry fees, accommodation) are usually paid by the individual member
  • Some events may require pre-payment to secure bookings

Details are always provided when events are announced.

The Club is managed by an elected Management Committee, made up of members just like you.

The Committee:

  • Oversees finances, governance and compliance
  • Plans events and activities
  • Ensures the Club operates fairly and safely

Committee members are elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting.

  • An Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held each year
  • Members can vote on important matters
  • Full members are eligible to vote if their membership is financial

If you can’t attend in person, proxy and online participation options are available.

We want the Club to be enjoyable and welcoming for everyone.

All members are expected to:

  • Treat others with respect
  • Drive responsibly
  • Follow the Club’s Rules and Code of Conduct
  • Support a safe and inclusive environment

Issues are handled fairly and respectfully, with clear processes in place if problems arise.

The Club thrives on member involvement.

You can:

  • Volunteer to help organise runs or events
  • Assist with social activities
  • Nominate for committee or supporting roles

You don’t need special experience — just a positive attitude and a willingness to help.

Questions or Unsure?

If you’re ever unsure about:

  • Which membership type is right for you
  • Whether an event is suitable
  • How something works

Please ask. The Committee and event organisers are here to help.
